When Alice gets in to the box she will often circle round and round until she decides where she is going to lay down to feed the pups. While she circles round and round the pups are now chasing her and calling out to her.
At last a picture which clearly shows they are getting very mobile now. When Alice gets in to the box she will often circle round and round until she decides where she is going to lay down to feed the pups. While she circles round and round the pups are now chasing her and calling out to her. Alice had a tidy up this afternoon, much to her disgust. She rather likes being a smelly mud covered individual with long tatty ear hair and long hair between her toes. Get out the grooming kit and she is off to hide away... Oh sorry to see to her other more important business! Looks like one of the boys is in practice to be the training class clown already. Laying on his back and legs in the air! lol Definitely going to be a cheeky little chap. A little blurry but this picture shows the pups eyes are opening now. soon there'll be no stopping them!

Asleep at last! Last night they decided to practice walking around the box, barking and generally getting themselves into mischief! Their eyes are beginning to open and they have mastered the baby steps wobble and can (after last nights practice) move quickly. To prove they are up on their feet now here is an extremely blurred photo of one of the pups up on his toes and moving rapidly towards the 'bar'! After a visit to the 'bar' he is crashed out for a few hours. So long as it is not 2am again when they decide to practice mischief we'll get along just fine. Arthur and Alice chillin' Glad somebody can dogs! I have spent a frustrating day trying to capture a picture of the babies who are pushing themselves up to begin their first wobbly dog steps. Every time I got ready Alice would come and poke her nose in or settle down to feed them again. Never mind I will get that picture! Here is today's picture. Another of Alice feeding the fat little furbabies. An old picture not very clear of the dogs who took part in the original Bucks area flatcoat training group run by my ex husband and myself in 1981 to 1985. One of the dogs in the group was owned Sheila Neary who later went on to become the FCRS Field Trial Secretary and another was owned by Anne Youens who went on to become the FCRS Show Secretary, (for the Flatcoated Retriever Society, if you are guessing what FCRS stands for). Another dog in the group became the mother to one of the first flatcoats taken on by Guide Dogs for the Blind. The picture was taken in the paddock behind Dinton Hall (famous for the Dinton Hermit). Trisha who lived in Dinton Hall at the time is now married to Laird Robin Malcolm and lives in a castle complete with a ghost! Since the puppies are still small pups, and not quite so engaging as they soon will be, once their eyes open and they start moving around I thought I'd post some more family photos. Leeglen midnight Lady was in the winning teamat the CLA game fair in 1989. She won awards in field trials and was described as a fast and stylish bitch when working. Exclyst Sequin This pretty little girl won 1 challenge certificate and 2 reserve challenge certificates in the show ring. She is dam to one field trial winner, 4 champion dogs, and two overseas champions. She is a grand daughter to one of my favourite dogs Ch. Exclyst Bernard. Field Trial Champion Werrion Redwing of Collyers was owned by the late Hon. Mrs Amelia Jessel. Noonie as she was called is in the 7th/8th generation of the pedigree quite a way back. She was our first FT champion after WWII and only one British dog has been made up to FT champion since then. Amelia was always encouraging to novice handlers and came to be a guest trainer at the original Bucks Flatcoat training group, which was held at Dinton Hall and run by myself and ex husband back in the early 1980's. Noonie is another dog who made it well into their double digit age. Today started full of good intentions, then as sometimes happens things start going 'pear shaped'! I was going to make a start on getting information together for the puppy packs, before going to work. Paul came home later than expected so I was late as I would never leave the puppies on their own. So while the puppies slept, I hurried off to work. While there I got a frantic phone call from my friend, whose dog had gone missing. Really worried about the dog as it was an old dog. Got home late as we had loads of next day orders to be processed, all coming in just as I was due to leave. Arrived home to find Alice on guard at the top of the stairs just outside the puppy room as usual. After posting over the internet about my friends dog I was pleased to hear that it is safe and well. After ten hours missing it was found curled up in the wheat not far from the bridle way. To top it all my PC is playing up so this post started earlier (on the 16th) is only now about to be published. Molly the minature bull terrier who went missing today. Molly is owned by Anna Webb and is regularly on the Alan Titchmarsh TV show. Here's hoping for a calmer day tomorrow. Day one. Less than three hours old. Alice looks tired, but is a caring mum. The puppies nuzzle the milk bar and sort of squirm along. Even at this age with eyes and ears closed they can smell her scent. Day five and relaxed and proud girlie looks after her babies, who are now beginning raise themselves on the hindquarters as they push against her to get milk. They are now very active in looking for her when they scent her arrival in the box. Today just chillin' Babies relaxing and Alice resting on my bed. We had a visitor Adam Masri was home from his holiday somewhere on Ben Nevis, and jogging past the house thought he would like to pop in and see the pups. Adam & Ian are my vets from Hampden House in Aylesbury. If only had my camera when Adam saw the pups ...... I don't know many vets who pop in to visit on their days off to make a fuss of their patients. Adam was always dropping in when Arthur was ill earlier in the year. Sleepy babies, full of milk. When Alice goes into the box they scent her there and start circling around like a bunch of small black sharks! As soon as she lies down and settles they make their way to the milk bar and start pushing and shoving against each other to get a place at the milk bar. :) A picture of Jet of Staverton FTW with some of his trophies. Jet was a field trial winner and won three trials however was not a FT champion as one of the open stake trials he won was for AV gudogs including HPRs which is not a qualifier for the FT champion title. Richard Beckerleg who owned him described him as very loyal and the best game finder. Jet won eight field trial awards six in open stakes. Shopnoller Sarah of Staverton another good working dog. She has SDC A, she won a novice trial and several awards in open field trial stakes. Six of the boys for day six! All fed and now sleeping. So while they are asleep I thought I would post a few pictures of their relatives. Uncle Arthur. Alice and Arthur are half brother and sister. Arthur lives here he is going to be 11 years old on the 7th August. This picture was taken at the end of last summer. This is great uncle Arthur. Staverton Arthur is litter brother to Staverton Adam who is Feltis sire. Arthur is 12 years old in this picture. Alice and Arthur sire Angus. Achility Red Cascade, he is a younger dog here, on the right with his proud owner Chris Howe, just after winning in the BASC Gamekeepers ring at Crufts and on the left out and about in the countryside. Angus worked up until shortly before he died having made it to 13.5/14 years of age. Chris now owns Alices brother Quiddelbach Oban of Achilty. Alice now feels confident enough to curl up for very short periods of time on my bed away from the puppies. If one squeaks she is off the bed in a flash and back in the box with them! The little bruisers are growing all the time. Their weight increases daily. They are growing into very sturdy little pups. |
